COMMUNITY USE OF SCHOOLS

Supported by the Ministry of Education, the Ottawa Catholic School Board provides access to school facilities for the promotion of physical activities for youth, adult fitness programs, and nationally recognized not-for-profit fundraising organizations.

School facilities such as gymnasiums, libraries, cafeterias and classrooms, are available to the public on school operating days when a caretaker is scheduled to be on duty. All interested applicants should review the location of a school of interest and contact the school directly to find out if there are available days and times for the requested facility (gym, library, classroom, etc). If the requested space is available, the applicant must complete an application form and forward the completed form to the school for final authorization.

Priority School Initiative

The Ministry of Education introduced a new component of the Community Use of Schools funding program entitled Priority Schools Initiative. The Priority Schools Initiative provides funding to selected school boards in order that not-for-profit groups will have free after-hour access to school facilities in communities that need it most. This is not a universal program and not every school board will be receiving Priority Schools funding. Four schools of the Ottawa Catholic School Board were selected to participate in this initiative:

Assumption Catholic School >>  St. Luke, Ottawa School >>
Prince of Peace School >>  St. Michael, Ottawa School >>

The Ottawa Catholic School Board provides no-cost use of schools to all not-for-profit community groups. These funds will also be used to provide additional and upgraded sports equipment for use by community groups at no additional cost in these four schools.
