    Exam Tips
    --------------------------

The first semester exams take place from
Friday January 25th to Thursday January 31st, 2008

Please note that students must write the exam and complete the CPT in order to meet the requirements of each course. Vacation, sport tournaments and work schedules are not acceptable reasons for missing an exam. The only approved reason to miss an exam would be a medical reason, and a medical certificate is required to validate the illness.

What happens if school is cancelled during exams?
If for some reason the school is cancelled during exams, an announcement will appear on the school website and over the local radio stations. The exams from that day will be written on a replacement date.

    What is Save-A-Credit Day
Save-A-Credit day occurs the day prior to exams. Teachers are available all day to help students prepare for exams. Teachers are also available to work with students to complete missing assignments where **previous** arrangements have been made. There is no formal instruction taking place on this day; so with parental permission some students may choose to study at home. Students at school are required to be in a classroom or another supervised area during credit recovery day.

    System Exams
Why do we have system exams?

System exams are important because they provide students, teachers, parents and administrators with a snap shot of student achievement within the school board in particular subjects. By identifying the areas of each course where students are achieving, and those areas that may be posing difficulty, educators can modify the courses to better suit the students. The system exams also provide an opportunity to ensure that the course content is meeting the expectations of the Ontario Ministry of Education (O.M.E.).

Based on the recommendations made after the analysis of all system exams, schools create an action plan to address any concerns related to areas that need modification.

By testing the same subjects over two consecutive years, it provides a focus for improvement.

The attached document provides tips and advice on preparing for exams. The document also includes links to websites to help prepare for taking an exam.
