HOW WE KNOW WE ARE SUCCEEDING
Assessing Student Progress
The provincial assessment of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics conducted by EQAO for all students in grades 3 and 6 took place in May 2009. Students were assigned a score between level 1 (the lowest) and level 4 (the highest). Students performing at levels 3 or 4 meet provincial expectations. The school results over time are depicted in the graphs below. Provincial data is provided in the table for comparative purposes. Test results should be examined in the context of additional factors, such as other achievement indicators, the percentage of students in English as a Second Language programs, the percentage of students receiving special education support, socioeconomic factors and parental support. Detailed information about this assessment is available at the school.

PRESERVING OUR SCHOOL HISTORY - LAST YEAR IN REVIEW
The staff of Georges Vanier Catholic School believe in the concept of continuous improvement. Strategies are regularly implemented to enhance the learning and educational environment of our school. The focus is developed through staff and parent consultation and analysis of the results of Board and provincial testing. The focus for this school year is: a) quality work; b) integration of subjects across the curriculum; c) mathematical literacy and problem-solving; d) literacy skill development in all grades; and e) the 'gospel values'. With the support and encouragement of parents, we will continue to teach the children the importance of considering the needs of others in our wider community through prayer, discussions and acts of generosity. To accompany our highly successful Peacemaker program, we take a great deal of time on the educational component. Students are learning to stand up for what is right and fair in all situations that arise. We are proud of the emphasis we place on who our children are becoming, not just on the academics they are learning.

More About Our Students/ School Achievement
|
 |
At Georges Vanier, we believe it is necessary to educate the whole child and to set high standards of quality in all areas, including spiritual, social, physical, artistic and academic domains.
To demonstrate this belief, our main focus is on "quality," since it can be applied to every aspect of our school life. Quality work, quality play and quality relationships help us to live our Gospel Values and to be good stewards of our Catholic faith. In recognition of their quality work, students have their work posted on our bulletin boards. Students who demonstrate support of our Peacemaker program and healthy relationship building gain recognition in a similar manner.
