HOW WE LIVE OUR CATHOLIC FAITH

Our Belief

The community believes that a Catholic school is one in which the teachings of Jesus Christ are integrated into the day-to-day curriculum and social fabric of school life. The staff and students of have many opportunities to pray and demonstrate their Catholic faith. These opportunities include: school-wide and classroom liturgies, retreats, fundraising for charities and community service.

HOW WE KNOW WE ARE SUCCEEDING

Assessing Student Progress

The provincial assessment of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics conducted by EQAO for all students in grades 3 and 6 took place in May 2009. Students were assigned a score between level 1 (the lowest) and level 4 (the highest). Students performing at levels 3 or 4 meet provincial expectations. The school results over time are depicted in the graphs below. Provincial data is provided in the table for comparative purposes. Test results should be examined in the context of additional factors, such as other achievement indicators, the percentage of students in English as a Second Language programs, the percentage of students receiving special education support, socioeconomic factors and parental support. Detailed information about this assessment is available at the school.

PRESERVING OUR SCHOOL HISTORY - LAST YEAR IN REVIEW

As we move into the sixth year as a new school, we will continue to strive for excellence in all dimensions of our students' development: spiritual, academic, social, behavioural and athletic. We look forward to being a truly community-based school with parents being actively involved in their child's school life. As well, we look forward to the opportunity of demonstrating Gospel values in our community and realizing the Board's vision expressed in "Believing, Discovering, Achieving" by continuing to implement our St. Andrew Catholic School Improvement Plan. We will continue to examine various intitiatives in the Board to select school activities that will nurture the development of spiritual, leadership skills and confidence of our students, contributing positively to the overall climate of St. Andrew Catholic.
