ABOUT OUR SCHOOL
Opened in 1981, St. Matthew High School is located in Orleans, within Gloucester. A modern, fully-equipped facility, St. Matthew High School has had two major expansions to help accommodate the growing population of our area and to provide students with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.
For more information, our school's web site is located at www.ottawacatholicschools.ca/mth. The St. Matthew Casual Wear Uniform Dress Code consists of white or black polo tops and khaki pants/capris or girl's kilt.

The St. Matthew High School Council functions as an advisory
body to the school principal and, on occasion, to the Board. The Council provides advice on a
variety of issues and reflects the school community in composition and function.Meetings are held
in the school library.

HOW WE LIVE OUR CATHOLIC FAITH
Our Belief
The St. Matthew High School community believes that a Catholic
high school is one in which the teachings of Jesus Christ are integrated into the day-to-day curriculum
and social fabric of high school life. We have many opportunities to pray and demonstrate our Catholic
faith including: prayer services, classroom liturgies, daily prayer, and active pastoral team, opportunities
for individual reflection in our chapel, and retreats for staff and students.
Our Partners
We live our Catholic faith by focusing on service, relationships, the Word of God, and lay witness and
leadership. Our chaplain coordinates and animates, with local pastors, the many areas of our faith life.
We also have Catholic symbols throughout our school and our parish representative is our liaison with
the parishes.
Demonstrating Our Faith
St. Matthew High School demonstrates its commitment to the community by:

HOW WE KNOW WE ARE SUCCEEDING
Assessing Student Progress
The results from the EQAO Grade 9 Assessment of Mathematics for the applied academic courses are displayed at the top of the page in graphs. Students who achieved level 3 or 4 meet provincial expectations. Provincial results are provided in tables beside the school graphs. The results from the EQAO Grade 10 Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) are presented next. Successful completion of the OSSLT is a graduation requirement.

PRESERVING OUR SCHOOL HISTORY - LAST YEAR IN REVIEW
This year we will continue to ensure that parents and community members have opportunities to contribute to our school through school council activities and through other venues. We will continue to celebrate our World Record achievement of having the largest Bear Hug on April 23, 2004 (Guinness text pg. 30) and setting the National Record for most money raised in support of Cancer research and patient care-$108,000 for Regional Cancer Centre. We will continue to implement strategies for Student Success and create a climate of High Expectations for success.

We believe our school should be at the centre of community activities. St. Matthew High School is currently running at 134% capacity, with activities scheduled weeknights and on many weekends. Examples of who uses our facilities include:

- Ottawa Capital Wrestling Club, Student Council Act
In addition to these examples, over 100 different courses, programs and workshops are offered to the community through the Continuing Education programs.

St. Matthew High School encourages excellence in academic and co-curricular activities.
Examples of our students' achievements include: Ontario Scholars-53 students; Partnership Awards (Ottawa-Carleton Learning Foundation, Phi Delta Kappa); two recipients of the Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence - Mrs. R. Messinger (1995), Mr. J. Bradley (1997); 7 and 8 Boys' and Girls' Basketball Championships; Junior Girls' Basketball Championships; representation at OFSAA in wrestling and track and field; recipient of Board's Environmental Award 1991-1998; Concours de Français - winners, extended and core French category; University of Waterloo Math Contests-26 Certificates of Distinction; highest Board team totals in 5 out of 6 major Math contests.
In 2005-2006, 204 out of 946 High School students achieved Honours - 80%+ and 27 achieved Golden Honours - 90%+. Daily Quality Physical Education Award-Platinum; 14 recipients of the Director of Education Commendation.
