HOW WE LIVE OUR CATHOLIC FAITH

Our Belief

The Our Lady of Fatima School community believes that a Catholic school is one in which the teachings of Jesus Christ are integrated into the day-to-day curriculum and social fabric of school life. The strength of our school comes from the Catholic faith that the staff, students and community share. We aspire to have our students develop a way of living that embodies the life of Jesus Christ.

The staff and students of Our Lady of Fatima School have many opportunities to pray and demonstrate their Catholic faith. These opportunities include: school-wide and classroom liturgies, retreats, fundraising for charities and community service.

HOW WE KNOW WE ARE SUCCEEDING

Assessing Student Progress

The provincial assessment of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics conducted by EQAO for all students in grades 3 and 6 took place in May 2009. Students were assigned a score between level 1 (the lowest) and level 4 (the highest). Students performing at levels 3 or 4 meet provincial expectations. The school results over time are depicted in the graphs below. Provincial data is provided in the table for comparative purposes. Test results should be examined in the context of additional factors, such as other achievement indicators, the percentage of students in English as a Second Language programs, the percentage of students receiving special education support, socioeconomic factors and parental support. Detailed information about this assessment is available at the school.

PRESERVING OUR SCHOOL HISTORY - LAST YEAR IN REVIEW

The staff of Our Lady of Fatima School believe in the concept of continuous improvement. Strategies are regularly implemented to enhance the learning and educational environment of our school. This year, that includes such things as workbook criteria for both the English and French subjects, organizational responsibilities through agendas and daily physical education.
Knowing the importance of the Arts in our world, we are focusing some of our special events in this area, such as bringing in actors, authors and musicians to share their expertise. We thank the School Council for their part in providing funding for these special events.
We are also enhancing the students' social and emotional world, with the children learning about solving conflicts, working together and being good to each other with Jesus as their model.

    COMMUNITY RELATIONS

    More About Our Students/
    School Achievement

At Our Lady of Fatima School we believe that it is important to recognize student achievement, participation and excellence, through the presentation of awards each month.

We encourage all our children to be caring people, not only
with each other, but with the earth.

Our school is also concerned about the physical fitness of the students. Each class is involved in different activites to keep our bodies healthy. As well as class activities, many of the students are involved in intramural sports and Board-wide sports.
