HOW WE LIVE OUR CATHOLIC FAITH

Our Belief

The St. Luke School community believes that a Catholic school is one in which the teachings of Jesus Christ are integrated into the day-to-day curriculum and social fabric of school life. The strength of our school comes from the Catholic faith that the staff, students and community share. We aspire to have our students develop a way of living that embodies the life of Jesus Christ.

The staff and students of St. Luke School have many opportunities to pray and demonstrate their Catholic faith. These opportunities include: school-wide and classroom liturgies, retreats, fundraising for charities and community service.

Our Partners

Fr. Greg Murray (Resurrection of Our Lord Parish), is invited to visit the school regularly and to participate in liturgical celebrations. The St. Luke School community has a strong partnership with parish, school and home. Our parish representative serves as the liaison with our school and our parish.

HOW WE KNOW WE ARE SUCCEEDING

Assessing Student Progress

The provincial assessment of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics conducted by EQAO for all students in grades 3 and 6 took place in May 2009. Students were assigned a score between level 1 (the lowest) and level 4 (the highest). Students performing at levels 3 or 4 meet provincial expectations. The school results over time are depicted in the graphs below. Provincial data is provided in the table for comparative purposes. Test results should be examined in the context of additional factors, such as other achievement indicators, the percentage of students in English as a Second Language programs, the percentage of students receiving special education support, socioeconomic factors and parental support. Detailed information about this assessment is available at the school.

PRESERVING OUR SCHOOL HISTORY - LAST YEAR IN REVIEW

At St. Luke School the advisory school council, together with staff and Church, will be reviewing the school strategic plan outlining our goals for the next three years. The emphasis for the coming year will continue to be literacy, math and physical education. This will be enhanced by further professional development activities as well as directions suggested by the "Ontario Focused Intervention Partnership" as part of the "Everybody Learns" committee. In addition, we will continue to work closely with the school council to enhance school-community relations and student learning. The staff of St. Luke is committed to continuous improvement in curriculum. Staff members are also committed to their own learning and are continually upgrading their skills. Students are very involved in keeping our playground safe and peaceful.

student achievement, participation and excellence through
the presentation of awards for individual and team successes.

St. Luke School recognizes some of the students' achievements with awards such as daily/monthly social skills, Good Citizenship and year-end curriculum awards. The City of Ottawa in partnership with Public Health, Fire Services and Paramedic Services presented the school with a "Safety and Safe Behaviour School Recognition Award".
