HOW WE LIVE OUR CATHOLIC FAITH

Our Belief

The Holy Spirit School community believes that a Catholic school is one in which the teachings of Jesus Christ are integrated into the day-to-day curriculum and social fabric of school life. HOW WE KNOW WE ARE SUCCEEDING

Assessing Student Progress

The provincial assessment of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics conducted by EQAO for all students in grades 3 and 6 took place in May 2009. Students were assigned a score between level 1 (the lowest) and level 4 (the highest). Students performing at levels 3 or 4 meet provincial expectations. The school results over time are depicted in the graphs below. Provincial data is provided in the table for comparative purposes. Test results should be examined in the context of additional factors, such as other achievement indicators, the percentage of students in English as a Second Language programs, the percentage of students receiving special education support, socioeconomic factors and parental support. Detailed information about this assessment is available at the school.

PRESERVING OUR SCHOOL HISTORY - LAST YEAR IN REVIEW

The teachers at Holy Spirit believe in the concept of continuous improvement. The staff model the concept of lifelong learning to their students by continually taking part in various Board and school professional development in all areas of the curriculum. Strategies are regularly implemented to enhance the learning and educational environment within the school. The use of technology has been and will continue to be a priority. Computers will be added to more of the classes and upgrading existing equipment will continue. Implementation of the Ontario Curriculum takes place and our teaching staff ensures students are engaged in curriculum experiences that have real world applications. The staff will continually review the school data that is received from the EQAO accounting offfice regarding provincial testing. This will help us understand how we can better assist students to learn.
